How this patch will affect your existing save games, highscores, and candidates

You won't be able to load any save games created before installing the patch.

This patch will reset the highscores.

This patch might create some extra candidates.

This patch will overwrite any default candidates you have edited. To keep these candidates, before installing the patch 1) Run the Candidate Editor, 2) Open the candidate you don't want overwritten, 3) Save the candidate using a different file name.

This patch will remove any candidates you have created from the party candidates lists, but it will not delete the candidates. You can then re-add them manually to the party candidates lists.

To re-add existing candidates you have created, after installing the patch:

1. Open 'My Computer' (usually, this is on your desktop).
2. Click 'View' on the menu bar in the My Computer window, and then click 'Choose Details ...'.
3. Make sure that 'Type' has a checkmark next to it.
4. Click 'OK'.
5. Now click on the Hard Disk icon in the My Computer window (usually, this is C:).
6. Open the 'Program Files' folder.
7. You might have to click 'Show files' at this point.
8. Open the 'President Forever' folder.
9. Open the 'Scenarios' folder.
10. Open the '2004' folder. (Or whichever scenario folder you want to re-add candidates to.)
11. Open the 'Parties' folder.'
12. To add a candidate to, say, the Republican party, right-click the 'republican.txt' file, and then click 'Open with'. Finally, select Notepad.
13. Notepad will load up. Now go to the line '@candidates'. Below this, you will see 'gwbush.txt'. Create an empty line below gwbush.txt by pressing enter as you would in a word processor. Now type the file name of the candidate you want to re-add (for example, 'cpowell.txt' (without the inverted commas)), followed by an enter.
14. Click 'File' on the Notepad menu bar, and then Save.

The next time your run President Forever, you should have your candidate(s) re-added to their respective parties!
